When we say we’re “being honest,” we really mean we’re getting personal. It’s no coincidence that the best stories happen when someone tells it like it is—and that means opening up about what we think, how we feel, what we know to be true. In this class, our experiences will be the starting point: we’ll turn our joys and frustrations into writing that moves others the same way, whether it’s about a favorite food or a life-defining realization. Personal writing is the only way to tell the whole truth. As journalists, we can’t ignore it any longer.
